Yesterday I attended the first of the series of knowledge dissemination lectures on Personal Finance and Wealth Management jointly organized by MMA and ICICI Bank.

It is indeed very laudable on the part of MMA to  launch this initiative to bring awareness amongst the members about their own finance.  ICICI Bank, being a Knowledge Partner, is also to be congratulated for bringing organized wealth management techniques and concepts to the investing public.

The session y’day was more of an overview with Vineet Dhar, Business Head Wealth Management of ICICI Bank talking about  the need for financial planning and the importance of Asset Allocation besides going through a structured process of managing Personal Finances.  The session also saw some large scale deviation from the intended topics towards macro economic issues like currency management, rupee dollar parity, sub-prime etc which also consumed substantial time of the session.

We are looking forward to future sessions filled with specific instances and case studies that will help understanding and implementation.

    I also attended that session. It was a nice ploy to advertise and solicit good, wealthy and resourceful customers for all their investments products and services. May be it is one of their indirect or surrogate advertising initiatives wherein the top brass from the local office of ICICI come in to say something powered by a Power Point Presentation and address a target audience of fairly well endowed people in one stroke under the garb of holding a seminar of this sort and even sponsoring such an event, leave alone funding it fully and creating a joint host image for themselves.

    But one good thing about the whole event was that the Dinner was excellent !
